Peermont bets on new name in lights for Rio Casino Resort!

Tusk Rio Casino Resort will now be known and re-branded as Rio Casino Resort, as of 25 July 2008.  The re-branding results from the acquisition of Tusk Resorts by Peermont in 2006, and Peermont's brand strategy of improving the product experience whilst uniquely theming each of its casino resorts to suit the location in which they reside. Rio Casino Resort offers a vibrant, fun and exciting entertainment experience for customers!

Anthony Puttergill, Peermont Chief Executive Officer commented, "Tusk Rio Casino Resort was purchased by Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts in December 2005 as part of its acquisition of the Tusk Resorts group consisting of five casinos in South Africa. The stated objective at the time was to achieve significant growth in casino gaming and optimize hotel developments on sites where Peermont owned casino licenses.

"Rio Casino Resort provides Peermont with a wonderful opportunity to develop this project into a multi-faceted resort, which will give the Mathlosana region a substantial boost in attracting conference, business and leisure visitors."  Puttergill added.

The new sign upon which the Rio brand name is proudly displayed is computerized, 10 meters by 7.5 meters in size, and was built using state of the art technology at a cost of R700,000.  The sign is environmentally friendly, and energy efficient. The low watt LED globes have a life span of 50,000 hours or 5-7 years, and uses on average 70% less energy than a conventional sign.

Rio Expansion and Improvement Plans

In addition to the new name and new sign, Rio has commenced construction on a new Metcourt hotel and a convention centre, at an estimated cost of R80 million.  The new Rio Hotel Casino and Convention Resort will include a 70 key Metcourt hotel, a 300 seat conference centre (which can be divided into two smaller break away meeting rooms), and a much bigger kitchen facility to serve the increased requirements of the resort.  In addition, a Go-cart Track will be added to the entertainment offering.  Already in October, Rio will also introduce a new coinless gaming system to significantly enhance the slots gaming experience at Rio, in conjunction with the launch of Peermont's ever-popular Winners Circle gaming loyalty programme.

The hotel is scheduled to open 1 March 2009, and will compliment the other six Peermont Metcourt hotels located in South Africa and Botswana.  The Metcourt hotels are popular, modern, contemporary designed, comfortable select-services 3 star hotels that offer refreshing value for money. Current Peermont Metcourt hotels include the Metcourt Laurel at Emperors Palace, O.R. Tambo Airport, Johannesburg; the Metcourt hotel at Khoroni, Thohoyandou, Limpopo; the Metcourt at Frontier Inn, Bethlehem, Free State; the Metcourt at The Grand Palm, Gaborone and the Metcourt in Francistown, Botswana.  Another Peermont Metcourt hotel is scheduled to open in early 2009 at Emperors Palace, next to O.R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

Puttergill adds, "Construction of the new facilities is well on track to meet our deadlines with the Metcourt Hotel and Convention Centre being launched in March 2009.

Peermont strives for setting new standards for hotels and resorts that continuously exceed guests' expectations, whilst giving back to the communities in which they are located." Peermont has made a point of using local contractors wherever possible which has created employment opportunities for just over 100 people. In addition, 300 more jobs have been created during the construction phase.

"Once the entire process is complete, this one-stop entertainment resort will bear the unmistakable Peermont stamp of exceptional service, décor and ambience, all delivering a distinctly African experience, under the overarching umbrella of quality, style and value for money," concluded Puttergill.
